Day 5: Lindau, Germany

June 8, 2013

We decided to sleep in this morning since we would not get much sleep on the night train. After having our Germanic style breakfast and checking out of our hotel, we spent a very relaxed day in Lindau. Basically our day consisted of walking down the little cobblestone streets, taking in the view of the lake, listening to local music, napping in the park and eating bratwursts and ice cream. Lindau is small and there are not many attractions, but it is neat just to wander the old town and soak up the culture. Amanda had been there for only an afternoon last year. The first thing we did was the sightseeing: seeing the old churches, the old watchtower, and the harbor.

Afterwards we sat in the harbor and listened to a local band, ate bratwursts and people-watched for a couple of hours. Clayton says that one of the best things about traveling is how great the people-watching is.
We decided to walk around a bit more and found a nice park where we both laid in the grass and napped for a while. Then we walked around the harbor and Clayton was offered a free caricature drawing as a model because of his “interesting haircut”. He turned it down. The woman drew funny ones and gave people big noses or lazy eyes when they didn’t have one so I can’t blame Clayton for worrying about how he might have turned out.

After walking a little more, we found a centrally located bench and ate a bratwurst and some Eis (Ice cream). They serve their bratwurst on hard bread or sometimes not even with bread. We’re not sure why they are against hot dog buns. The ice cream is also very good here for some reason. Clayton had two cones and I had four scoops throughout the day.

Other random finds of the day:

Ducks making nests on tires by the harbor

Their ducks have weird feet

Amount of space allocated for basketball
 VS.

Amount of space allocated for soccer (futball)

We found another tractor, Dads!
The day was very relaxing and we greatly enjoyed it. We will probably need the rest as we load a night train tonight heading for Cologne, Germany.
